If you are citing the whole book, follow the first sample below. But many times you may only need to cite one chapter of a book, so then use the 2nd sample below.

1) Whole complete book - The APA style requires the following elements when citing a book:

Author's last name, initial. (Year of publication). Title. Publisher.

Pollan, M. (2006). The omnivore's dilemma. Penguin Books.

If the book is online and includes a DOI number, include the DOI in the reference after the publisher name. Do not include the name of the database. If there is no DOI, include an URL if the link goes directly back to that book.

Adler, A. B., & Forbes, D. (Eds.). (2021). Anger at work: Prevention, intervention, and treatment in high-risk occupations. American Psychological Association. https://doi.org/10.1037/0000244-000

Hallett, C., & Johnston, A. (2014). Fabric for fashion: The complete guide. Laurence King Publishing. https://ebookcentral.proquest.com/lib/berkeleycollege-ebooks/detail.action?docID=1876171

2) Chapter in a book - include the specific chapter's author, date, chapter title and page numbers, as well as the editor, title and publisher of the whole book:

Chapter Author's last name, initials. (Year of publication). Chapter title. In Editor initials, Editor Last name (Ed.), Book title (edition #, chapter pages pp. ###-###). Publisher.

For eBooks/online books, add the DOI or a link back to that specific chapter or article as the URL. Do not include the name of the database:

Bellis, D. D. (2020). Aortic Aneurysm. In J. L. Longe (Ed.), The Gale encyclopedia of medicine (6th ed.,  Vol. 1, pp. 471-473). Gale, a Cengage Company. https://link.gale.com/apps/doc/CX7986600170/GVRL?u=berkeleycoll&sid=bookmark-GVRL&xid=57704977

O'Neill, O. M. (2021). Emotional culture and the angry team. In A. B. Adler & D. Forbes (Eds.), Anger at work: Prevention, intervention, and treatment in high-risk occupations (pp. 111–140). American Psychological Association. https://doi.org/10.1037/0000244-005
