Grammarly is a digital writing assistant that makes suggestions on how to improve your writing. It works as a spellchecker and offers personalized vocabulary-building tools.

To access Grammarly, click on the Grammarly tile in the Engage portal or go directly to You will be prompted to log in with your Berkeley credentials.

From there, click Apps in the left-hand navigation bar to see all available Grammarly tools. You will need to install the Grammarly Chrome extension to use the tool on web-based platforms (e.g. Canvas discussion board posts, Outlook for the web, etc.). The Grammarly browser extensions are also available for Firefox, Safari, and Edge.

Grammarly also has an add-in for Microsoft Word and a keyboard app for mobile devices (e.g. phones, iPads, etc.). These need to be installed separately.

If you have any difficulties installing or accessing any of the Grammarly tools listed here, please contact the Berkeley College HelpDesk at or 973-278-5400 x1540."
